Alpha AXP

Alpha AXP, also known as Alpha, is a family of 64-bit microprocessors developed by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in the 1990s. The "AXP" designation stands for "Advanced RISC Computing," reflecting the architecture's focus on reduced instruction set computing (RISC) principles. Alpha AXP processors were designed for high-performance computing applications, offering superior performance and scalability compared to contemporary architectures. Featuring innovative technologies such as out-of-order execution and speculative execution, Alpha AXP processors powered high-end servers, workstations, and supercomputers, making significant contributions to scientific research, engineering, and industrial computing. Despite its technological advancements, the Alpha AXP architecture eventually faced challenges and was discontinued after DEC's acquisition by Compaq and later Hewlett-Packard.
