VMware ESX Server

VMware ESX Server, introduced in 2001, is a pioneering virtualization platform that enables the creation and management of virtualized environments. ESX Server, later evolved into VMware vSphere, allows for the abstraction of physical hardware resources, such as CPU, memory, storage, and networking, into multiple virtual machines (VMs). These VMs can run different operating systems and applications independently, yet share the underlying physical resources efficiently. ESX Server provides features such as vMotion for live migration of VMs between host servers, High Availability (HA) for automatic VM failover in case of hardware failure, and Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) for optimizing resource utilization across the virtualized infrastructure. ESX Server has played a pivotal role in the widespread adoption of virtualization in enterprise IT environments, offering scalability, flexibility, and resource optimization.
