Google Bigtable

Google Bigtable, introduced in February 2005, is a fully managed NoSQL database designed for large analytical and operational workloads, part of the Google Cloud portfolio.

Development and Utilization

Development began in 2004, seeing extensive use across various Google applications such as Google Analytics, Google Maps, and Gmail. It was made publicly available on the Google Cloud in May 2015, demonstrating significant scalability and performance benefits.

Technical Architecture

Bigtable is a wide-column store, mapping two string values and a timestamp to a byte array, not adhering to relational database models. It's built on several Google technologies like Colossus and the Chubby Lock Service, designed to efficiently scale to petabytes of data.
