Intel Pentium III

The Intel Pentium III is a series of microprocessors manufactured by Intel Corporation, released in 1999 as the successor to the Pentium II line. Built on the 0.25-micron process technology, the Pentium III CPUs featured enhancements such as the introduction of SSE (Streaming SIMD Extensions) instruction set, which improved multimedia processing capabilities. With clock speeds ranging from 450 MHz to 1.4 GHz, the Pentium III offered competitive performance for its time, particularly in gaming and multimedia applications. However, the Pentium III faced stiff competition from AMD's Athlon processors, which often provided better performance at lower price points. Despite this, the Pentium III remained a popular choice for mainstream desktop computing until its eventual discontinuation in 2003.
