MIPS R4000

The MIPS R4000 is a 64-bit microprocessor developed by MIPS Computer Systems, later acquired by Silicon Graphics, Inc. (SGI), introduced in 1991. Operating at clock speeds up to 100 MHz, the R4000 was one of the first commercially available 64-bit microprocessors. It featured a superscalar architecture, allowing it to execute multiple instructions simultaneously, and incorporated advanced features such as branch prediction and on-chip cache memory. The R4000 was widely used in high-performance computing, workstations, servers, and embedded systems, contributing to its reputation for reliability and efficiency. The MIPS R4000 architecture became influential in the development of subsequent MIPS processors and other RISC-based microprocessors.
