Transistor

A transistor is a semiconductor device used to amplify or switch electronic signals and electrical power. It was first introduced in 1947 at Bell Laboratories by William Shockley, John Bardeen, and Walter Brattain, marking a significant advancement in electronics technology. Transistors replaced bulky and less reliable vacuum tubes, enabling the development of smaller, more efficient electronic devices. They consist of three layers of semiconductor material and can function as electronic amplifiers, controlling the flow of electrical current between two of the layers by varying the voltage or electrical current applied to the third layer. Transistors are fundamental building blocks of modern electronics, found in virtually all electronic devices, from computers and smartphones to televisions and medical equipment, driving the rapid advancement of technology over the past decades.
